Everything you need to know about participating in our hackathons.

General Rules
All participants must adhere to the following general rules when participating in Hackathon Valley events:
- All code, design, and assets used in your project must be created during the hackathon period, unless they are freely available and properly attributed.
- Participants must respect intellectual property rights and only use content they have permission to use.
- Teams must build their projects from scratch during the hackathon. Pre-built templates or previous projects are not allowed.
- All participants must register individually before the registration deadline.
- Participants must follow the Code of Conduct throughout the event.
- The decisions of the judges are final and binding.
Team Formation
Teams are an essential part of the hackathon experience. Here are the guidelines for team formation:
- Teams can consist of 1-5 members, with 3-4 members being the recommended team size.
- All team members must be registered participants of the hackathon.
- Participants can join only one team per hackathon.
- Team formation can happen before or during the hackathon. We provide team-building sessions at the beginning of each event.
- Teams should have diverse skill sets to maximize their potential for success.
- If you don't have a team, don't worry! We'll help you find teammates during our team formation sessions.
Timeline & Deadlines
Each hackathon follows a specific timeline. Here's a general overview of what to expect:
Registration Period
Registration typically opens 4-6 weeks before the hackathon and closes 1 week before the event.
Kickoff & Team Formation
The hackathon begins with an opening ceremony, followed by team formation sessions for those who need teammates.
Hacking Period
The main hacking period typically lasts 24-48 hours, during which teams work on their projects.
Submission Deadline
All projects must be submitted by the specified deadline. Late submissions will not be accepted.
Judging & Presentations
Teams present their projects to judges, who evaluate them based on the judging criteria.
Awards Ceremony
Winners are announced and prizes are awarded during the closing ceremony.
Judging Criteria
Projects are evaluated based on the following criteria:
Innovation & Creativity (25%)
How original and innovative is the project? Does it solve a problem in a unique way?
Technical Complexity (25%)
How technically impressive is the project? Is it built with complex technologies or algorithms?
Functionality & Completeness (20%)
Does the project work as intended? Is it complete and functional?
User Experience & Design (15%)
Is the project user-friendly? Is the design intuitive and visually appealing?
Impact & Potential (10%)
What is the potential impact of the project? Does it address a significant problem?
Presentation & Pitch (5%)
How well did the team present their project? Was the pitch clear and compelling?
Code of Conduct
We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants. All participants must adhere to the following code of conduct:
- Treat all participants with respect and consideration, valuing a diversity of views and opinions.
- Communicate openly and thoughtfully with others, being respectful of cultural differences.
- Be considerate, respectful, and collaborative in both online and in-person interactions.
- Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and speech.
- Be mindful of your surroundings and of your fellow participants.
- Alert hackathon organizers if you notice a dangerous situation, someone in distress, or violations of this code of conduct.
Violations of the code of conduct may result in disqualification from the hackathon and future events.
Submission Requirements
To submit your project, you must provide the following:
- Project Title and Description: A clear and concise description of your project, including the problem it solves and how it works.
- Team Information: Names and roles of all team members.
- Source Code: A link to a public repository (GitHub, GitLab, etc.) containing your project's source code.
- Demo: A working demo of your project, either as a deployed application or a video demonstration.
- Presentation: A brief presentation (slides or video) explaining your project, its features, and how it addresses the hackathon challenge.
- Technologies Used: A list of technologies, frameworks, and libraries used in your project.
All submissions must be made through the official submission platform by the specified deadline.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I participate in multiple hackathons?
Yes, you can participate in as many hackathons as you want, but you can only be part of one team per hackathon.
Do I need to be a programmer to participate?
No, hackathons are for everyone! We welcome participants with diverse skills, including design, business, marketing, and more.
Can I use pre-existing code or projects?
No, all code must be written during the hackathon. However, you can use publicly available libraries, frameworks, and APIs.
What if I don't have a team?
Don't worry! We provide team formation sessions at the beginning of each hackathon to help you find teammates.
Are there any age restrictions?
Most of our hackathons are open to participants 18 years and older. Some events may have specific age requirements, which will be clearly stated in the event details.
What should I bring to an in-person hackathon?
Bring your laptop, charger, any hardware you plan to use, and personal items like toiletries and a change of clothes for overnight hackathons.
